The Best Care is Immediate Care

In almost any emergent care situation, a patient receives evaluation and treatment by a physician in a timely manner. The one situation where this may not be the case is when a newborn unexpectedly needs immediate attention. While many hospitals promote luxurious hotel-like amenities and concierge services for you and your baby;,today’s parents understand that what is most important is a hospital’s ability to provide timely and appropriate care for their newborn. While many hospitals have 24/7 in-house obstetrician coverage for mothers, the same is not the case for newborns.

With ten percentof all newborns requiring admission to a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), it is impossible to know in advance when neonatal services will be needed. Quite often, decisions that could have a lifelong impact on a child and family must be made by practitioners that are unaccustomed to managing critically-ill newborns.

At Firstday Healthcare, we ensure that every newborn is evaluated and managed by newborn physician specialists (neonatologists) in conjunction with in-house skilled and compassionate neonatal nurse practitioners who are skilled at newborn procedures and have many years of bedside experience managing both normal newborns and those needing immediate intervention.

Few things diminish the joy of a new birth more than being told that your baby needs to be transferred to another hospital to receive a higher level of care. In many instances, the mother is not able to be transferred with her newborn.

Imagine being told that your baby needs to be transferred to a Level 3 NICU and then waiting anxiously for the transport team to arrive unaware of how your baby is doing. Now imagine instead that your hospital gives you a tablet device where you can see our neonatal nurse practitioner caring for your newborn while you interact with our neonatologist who explains your baby’s care and how your baby can remain closer to you.
